A reference to the lost crew of the Pequod, Ahab’s ship doomed to sail in vain throughout time in Melville’s Moby Dick. Olsen extends upon the idea of an endless journey by incorporating collaged photographs made of his own earlier paintings, combining gestures made in the present, and in the past, into this one painting. – Lance Austin Olsen
